No sales yet? Check these first

The usual reasons a live product isn’t selling, in the order to check them.

Work down this list. Most quiet products have one of the first three problems.

1. Are enough of the right people seeing it?

The most common problem by far. Rough idea: if fewer than a few hundred interested people have seen the page, it’s too early to judge the page. Count visits honestly: your affiliates’ Visits column helps.

Fix: more of the right people. Email your list, recruit affiliates who reach your buyers, share in communities where you already contribute.

2. Does the page say who it’s for in the first lines?

Ask someone who’s never heard of it to read the top of your page for five seconds and tell you what it is and who it’s for. If they can’t, rewrite the top.

3. Does the checkout work?

Buy it yourself. Check the price, the description at checkout, the thank-you page and the download. Open the delivery link in a private window.

4. Is the price in line?

Compare five real alternatives. If you’re much higher, the page needs to show why. If you’re much lower, people may doubt it. See Pricing a digital product.

5. Is there a reason to buy now?

There doesn’t have to be fake urgency, but a real reason helps: a launch price that really ends, a season, a bonus for a limited time you’ll honor.

6. Is it something people want?

Ask five people in your audience why they didn’t buy. Listen. Sometimes the answer is a better product, a smaller one, or a different audience.
