SplitPartner lets a few people make one digital product together and sell it. Every time someone buys, each person gets their agreed share, sent to them automatically. No spreadsheets, no chasing anyone for money.
First, the words, in plain English
Most of what sounds complicated here is just new vocabulary. Here’s every term you’ll run into, and what it means.
- Digital product
- Something people buy and download or open online, instead of something shipped in a box. An ebook, a printable planner, a template, a set of graphics, a music sample pack, a party kit.On SplitPartner it’s a file (up to 50 MB), a link, or both.
- Partner
- Someone who helps make or sell the product and gets a share of every sale. Two friends, a writer and a designer, a whole small team.
- Joint venture (JV)
- The business name for “we’re doing this one project together.” You don’t form a company; you just agree how this one product works.
- The split
- Who gets what percentage of each sale. 50/50, 60/40, 50/30/20. The percentages always add up to 100%.
- Partner agreement
- The written record of the split, everyone’s role, and how changes get made. Everyone signs it inside SplitPartner before the product can be sold.
- Checkout
- The page where a buyer types in their card and pays. Every product gets one, ready to share.
- Stripe
- A well-known payment company that handles the card payment and the money transfers. It’s what millions of online stores use. Each partner gets their own Stripe account, and SplitPartner never sees anyone’s bank details.
- Payout
- Your share of a sale, sent to your Stripe account. Stripe then moves it to your bank on its regular schedule.
- Sales page
- A web page that explains the product and convinces people it’s worth buying, with a Buy button. SplitPartner products get one free through Sales Page Hero.
- Affiliate
- Someone who isn’t a partner but recommends the product to their own audience, using a special link. When a sale comes through their link, they earn a commission.
- Commission
- The affiliate’s cut: a percentage of the sale you and your partners choose. It comes off before the partners split the rest.
- Launch and prelaunch
- The launch is the day sales open. The prelaunch is the run-up: a page that says “coming soon” and collects an early list of people who want to hear when it opens.
The problem it solves
Say you and a friend make a printable planner together. You did the writing, she did the design. Now you want to sell it. Who collects the money?
Usually one person sells it through their own account, keeps a spreadsheet, and sends the other person their half at the end of the month. That works until it doesn’t. Someone forgets. Someone wonders whether the numbers are right. A refund comes in and nobody knows whose share it comes out of. Good partnerships go sour over exactly this.
The usual way
- One person holds all the money
- A spreadsheet decides who’s owed what
- Paying each other by hand, every month
- The deal lives in a text message, if anywhere
- One person can change the price or the product alone
- Refunds turn into awkward conversations
With SplitPartner
- The buyer pays one checkout
- Each share is sent to each partner after every sale
- Everyone sees the same sales, fees and payouts
- The split is in a signed agreement
- Changes need the partners’ approval
- Refunds come out of each share by the same split
How it works, start to finish
Six steps, in this order. The first four happen once per product.
Create the product
Give it a name, a price and a short description. Add each partner’s email, their role and their percentage.
Everyone signs
Each partner gets an email, logs in with a code (no password to remember) and signs the partner agreement.
Everyone sets up payouts
Each partner fills in Stripe’s form once, so Stripe knows where to send their money. It takes a few minutes.
Add what buyers get
Upload the file, add a link, or both. Buyers get it right after paying, on the thank-you page and by email.
Go live
The Go live button works once everyone has signed, everyone can be paid, and there’s something to deliver. Nobody can launch early by accident.
Share it and sell
Share the checkout link, make a free sales page, or put a Buy button on your own website. Every sale splits on its own from here.
Follow one sale
Here’s exactly where the money goes when someone buys a $27 product made by three partners who agreed on 50%, 30% and 20%.
A $27 sale
Stripe’s fee here is an example at 2.9% + 30¢, its standard US rate for a US card; the real fee depends on the card, and every sale shows the actual amount. The commission rate is one partners might choose; you set your own, or have none. Shares are rounded to the cent so they always add up exactly.
What people make together
Most good products come from two people who are each good at half of it. A few examples of who might team up, what they’d make, and a split they might agree on.
These are examples, not real accounts. Some topics, like money, health and business courses, are reviewed before launch. See what you can sell, and agreeing on a fair split before you pick your numbers.
Partners, affiliates and buyers
There are three ways people show up on SplitPartner. You might be one, or all three on different products.
Partners
Make and sell the product, sign the agreement, and get their share of every sale.
- Approve changes together
- See every sale and payout
- Can elect a leader for everyday edits
Affiliates
Recommend products they believe in and earn a commission on the sales they send.
- Apply from Products to promote
- Get ready-made emails and posts
- Paid after a 30-day hold, in case of refunds
Buyers
Pay once on a simple checkout and get the product right away. They never need an account.
- Card payment through Stripe
- Download link by email
- Can ask for a refund, under the refund terms
Why it helps, even if you know nothing yet
You never chase anyone for money
Each partner’s share goes to their own Stripe account after every sale. Nobody holds anyone else’s money.
Everyone sees the same numbers
Every sale, every fee, every payout, on one page all partners can open. Trust is easier when nothing is hidden.
The deal is written down
The split and everyone’s role are in a signed agreement, not a half-remembered phone call.
Nobody changes things behind your back
Price, files, the split: changes are proposed and approved. You choose whether sales keep going while you vote.
You don’t need a website
Every product gets a checkout page, and a free sales page through Sales Page Hero. You can add your own domain later.
Other people can help you sell
Turn on affiliates, list the product where affiliates look, and give them ready-made emails and posts.
Help writing every page
Fill in a short brief once, then copy step-by-step prompts into ChatGPT, Claude or any AI chat to draft your description, sales page and launch emails.
Nothing to pay up front
No monthly fee and no card to sign up. SplitPartner’s platform fee is 0% at present; Stripe’s card fee comes out of each sale.
What it doesn’t do
Better to know now than to find out later.
A buyer pays once for a file or a link. No subscriptions, memberships or payment plans.
The agreement records your split and how changes work. It isn’t legal advice; for a big deal, have a lawyer look it over.
If partners disagree, sales keep paying out under the last signed agreement. SplitPartner doesn’t decide who’s right.
Each partner and affiliate handles income tax on their own share. See taxes.
Stripe has to verify each person it pays, so each partner fills in its form, with ID and bank details, once.
Guaranteed-income schemes, fake reviews and invented urgency aren’t allowed. Honest products only.
Your first hour
If you have an idea and a partner, here’s a realistic first sitting.
- Talk to your partner about who does what, and agree on the split.Ten minutes with Agreeing on a fair split helps.
- Log in with your email and create the product.Name, price, a sentence about it, and your partner’s email and percentage.
- Sign the agreement, and ask your partner to sign theirs.
- Both of you set up payouts with Stripe.
- Upload the file or add the link, then go live.Make a free sales page whenever you’re ready; the checkout link works on its own.
Questions beginners ask
Do I need to be technical?
No. If you can fill in a form and upload a file, you can do this. Stripe’s payout setup asks for the same kind of details as opening a bank account.
Do I need my own website?
No. Every product gets a checkout page, and you can make a free sales page through Sales Page Hero. If you already have a website, you can put a Buy button on it instead.
What does it cost?
There’s no monthly fee and nothing to pay to sign up. SplitPartner’s platform fee is 0% at present, and any fee would show in the agreement before anyone signs. Stripe takes its card fee from each sale. See fees, plainly.
Can I use it by myself?
Yes. Make a product with just you at 100%, and turn on affiliates if you want help selling it.
When does the money reach my bank?
Your share is sent to your Stripe account right after each sale. Stripe then pays your bank on its schedule; a brand-new account’s first payout is often held a week or two. See when you get paid.
What if my partner wants out?
Partners can change the split, add someone or remove someone, with the signed partners’ approval. Past sales keep the split they were made under. See adding or removing a partner.
What happens with a refund?
The refund comes back out of each partner’s share by the same split, and an affiliate’s commission is canceled if it’s still in its 30-day hold. See refunds.
Do buyers need an account?
No. They pay on the checkout and get the product on the thank-you page and in their email.
Got an idea and someone to make it with?
Creating a product takes a few minutes, and nothing is sold until every partner has signed.
